What are your retirement options

Where can you legally go?

Live your dream in a peaceful and safe environment where you are respected for your Seniority, with almost no Covid risk or restrictions

What are your retirement options? Where can you legally go?

Depending on which passport(s) that you hold, will determine where you can legally go and retire or reside.

Some wealthy westeners often can legally purchase additional passports/nationalities as long as they apply for permission from their home country first.

However the costs of this vary from expensive to extremely expensive depending on the country desired.

As an example it is possible to purchase/acquire an EU passport in Malta or Portugal with a investment cost around  $750,000.00. The catch is that often the investment and residential requirements can be long, often around 5 years or more.

Many other desirable countries like Australia require much larger property investments often in excess of $2,000,000.00.

There are many other countries especially in South America, and independent Islands where it is easier and much cheaper to purchase (acquire) nationality, however they may not be particularly desirable as a retirement destination.

If you are not in the super rich category, then the option is to look at countries that welcome retirees without huge capital investments.

The good news is that there are many countries in Asia that fall into this category.

Some of these countries will let you work or start a business (with the appropriate permits).

Some of the countries do not require large cash deposits into local bank accounts, for example Cambodia.

Retirees on a very tight budget may have to look at other Asian countries to relocate to.

Most of the Asian countries have a system in place for retirees to apply for and get retirement visa’s.

Thailand has a system in place, of which hundreds of thousands of Expats have taken advantage of, and settled in retirement.

The difficulty comes in choosing which desirable Asian country and which city, as there are so many pros and cons to each.

The internet has a lot of information however the practical reality is difficult to assess online.

This is why we believe that coming to Thailand and joining our family for 3 months will give you a realistic feel for life in Asia.

As a family, we have relocated from South Africa to England, and thereafter from England to Thailand.
